Friday Fabulousness......Mother Daughter.....

for my skirt I used New Look 6571 & I added in seam pockets........our sunflowers bloomed late this year because of the cooler weather.......

mini-me picked out this bold hot pink fabric & the patterns..............

I am enjoying these mother daughter outfits because I so know it will not last..........so until then.... it truly is  Friday Fabulousness!

a little sewing....

I was so busy this weekend that I only had a little time to finish up this skirt that was started a year ago.....

it is a simple circle skirt that I made from my own pattern..........

I added the white bias tape but had to re sew because it was off....it still does not look perfect....the hem on these circle skirts are trying for me.  I like these type of skirts for the office & for working around the house.

Friday Fabulousness.....Mini maxi skirt

I had this lavender lace & did not quite know what to make with it.  I have been making quite a few of maxi skirts & dresses & after some thought I decided on a mini maxi skirt.....I am pretty sure someone else has thought of this...... although I could not find the name on Google.....if you know of another name for it let me know......for now I call it a mini maxi skirt.

Once I decided on a skirt........ the inspiration for the style came from my Nanny's ring........as I remember her wearing this ring & she loved lace too.

I cut & measured myself for 3 rectangle pieces...............

I made a simple gathered waist of elastic......hem the sides....a really simple lace skirt.

You have to use your imagination & picture this skirt worn on a beach (not on a car lift in my husbands garage) which is where I will be wearing it in a couple of weeks on my vacation.......

Mini Clutch....glamorous side project

This is a little glamorous side project that I have been making......

a mini clutch in hot pink....using the same hot pink leather that I made for my iPad clutch/cover.....

I wanted it to be a mini clutch so I used a magazine as the size......this is the piece of leather & I used this polka dot hot pink fabric for the lining with a black zipper for contrast........

I cut the lining a little bit bigger than the leather piece......

oh yeah.....I forgot to change needles & broke a needle & put my automatic threader out of line!  You never know you miss something till its gone......that automatic threader was the feature I used always....I think it will cost too much to repair....now I blindly have thread manually & it takes me forever!

add the zipper..........

and I added a ribbon handle & my initial that I had from an old necklace.  This is perfect for holding my keys, Ray-Bans & lip gloss & I am taking it on vacation with me to also use it as a glamorous passport holder!

Burdastyle Feature

I am so excited that my feature for Burdastyle got posted this week......when the lovely rachelnyc contacted me through a email saying they wanted to do a feature......I was like.....what?......me??  I am so not Burda worthy as  I just started sewing skirts & dresses in January 2010!  Burda was the first sewing site I came across when I was learning how to sew garments.....the site has "make it projects" & can just about answer any sewing question.  The inspirational projects are a pleasure to to look at & I try to go on the site a few times a week to see all the beautiful projects.  Most of these ladies also are real seamstresses & have "real" sewing blogs with technical details that they take the time to share & post photos.  These details are very helpful to a novice like myself and I want say "thanks" to Burdastyle & these fabulous ladies......it is very much appreciated!

Friday Fabulousness..on trend....my sheer stripe skirt madness...

I was emailed this other day by Janlynn-sewmore my sewing blogger friend that had saw this stripe sheer skirt in Canada's Fashion Magazine.  She thought I had made it as it looks very similar to my Sheer Skirt that I designed in April 2011!  Being the OCD freak that I am, I had to run out & buy a copy.

It is in the current September 2011 Trend issue.......mmmmmmn from Montreal to Vancouver..........you say?

I actually made 2 styles of these stripe sheer skirts......blogged here with a mini tutorial & with a zipper blogged here

When I designed this sheer maxi skirt........ I had this gorgeous fabric for years waiting around to be made into something....edgy & modern....& I had not seen anything like it with the bold ribbon stripes & chiffon sheerness.

At the time I was on a sheer madness skirt making frenzy & made several others in different fabrics so it's kinda cool to be on trend!

t-shirt dress......

I usually do not make refashions but the "husband" said I "shrunk" his t-shirt & I should have it because it no longer fit him!  At this rate I am never going to finish my Vogue jumpsuit before summer ends............

We belong to a car club & these are t-shirts my husband got for us..there are only men's sizes L & XL so I decided to make mods to the "shrunk" one he gave me...........

I started by cutting a new neck line.......

for the sleeves I made 2 rows at the top & set my machine on the longest stitch...I then pulled the threads to gather & tied off at the ends.

I measured 6 inches from the neckline & with my measuring tape drew a line in pencil so I could sew the elastic in a straight line.

I used a zig zag stitch on all my seams & pulled slightly on the elastic as I stitched so it would gather.

and now I have my car club t-shirt dress that fits me & I wore it this past weekend on our car club road trip.  The other lady members loved it & my husband got a "new" t-shirt.......but maybe by the next "wash" I will think of another way to glamorize another one these t-shirts....any ideas? lol!

Friday Fabulousness....denim skirt

this skirt is a simple A line cut on the bias............this is my own design that I made with zippers that I already had.  I sewed them into flowers & shaped them with my glue gun & added a silver bead to the center.

I used hot pink thread & serged the hem.  I like these type of skirts to wear to the office as they are comfortable & you can make them in so many different fabrics......this is the 2nd denim skirt that I made.

I also made the ankle bracelet by adding a piece of black bias tape for the band.....I always have small pieces left over from projects & never know what to do with them!

wishing you a weekend of fabulousness............

Drape Dress

This is a halter dress I designed from a inexpensive knit fashion fabric that I got a while back.  I liked the fabric at the store but when I got home the pattern looked a little too busy for me.....like all over the place.  I thought I could use the fabric for my toiles but this is really a stretch fabric so I started to drape, measure & pin the fabric & this is what I got.  I used my serger and my sewing machine for the back halter seam & side seams.  I made a little bustle at the back skirt part because the skirt looked rather plain in style on its own.

The front is a cowl style & fits rather comfortably.  I have been wearing this around the house & think it will be perfect when we go on vacation as I can roll this up in a small suitcase for travel.
